What to expect

As life for queer people in Indonesia is becoming increasingly difficult, we’re taking a city trip to Jakarta to listen, learn and look at the city from a different perspective. Our host, Genta, shares her personal experiences and perspective, offering a glimpse into the city and the many stories that shape it.

Expect a relaxed evening of stories, images and a small sensory taste of Jakarta, from your seat in OASE’s Kantine. No passport or boarding pass needed.

About Citytrip

Citytrip is OASE’s series where each edition, a different guide takes you to a city that feels like home. Through personal stories, photos, videos and favourite places, you discover a city through the eyes of someone who knows it intimately.
You might find yourself back in a hometown you know, or discover a city you’ve never visited before. All from the comfort of OASE, with something to eat, music and stories to make the journey complete.

About Genta Tanjung

Genta Tanjung is an Indonesian writer based in Amsterdam. She moved to the Netherlands to pursue her MA studies at Utrecht University. She worked as an editor and has edited a published fantasy novel. Her literary interests primarily focus on contemporary queer fiction. Her writing is rooted in diasporic and queer identities that somehow always find their way back to lesbianism. When she’s not writing, you can find her performing her poems at open mics and watching the latest horror films.
